Can CBD be used in the workplace?

In the United States, federal and state laws concerning the medical use of CBD is confusing. Many states have passed laws legalizing the use of CBD, usually in oil form, on the condition that it contains minimal tetrahydrocannabinoil (THC), the psychoactive ingredient that induces a “high” when cannabis is ingested or smoked. While some states have passed similar laws, but on the grounds that CBD will be used for medical purposes only. These are mainly childhood epilepsy and seizures.

Nonetheless, CBD is not a psychoactive agent and is not what drug tests are looking for. But, this does not mean you’re in the clear. The truth is that not every manufacturer makes CBD oil the same way. Some companies produce CBD oil free of THC, and then there are those that use slight amounts of THC to enhance the therapeutic benefits of the products. However, these products typically contain 0.5% of THC or less.

According to CBD product manufacturer PlusCBD Oil, daily consumption of unusually large amounts of CBD, like 1,000 to 2,000 mg’s, could trigger a positive for THC. But this would be a false-positive, meaning if the sample were to undergo further testing it would show as a negative. Regardless of this, one should always stay on the safe side and buy their CBD products from a reputable company and use the recommended dosage.

Now one might wonder, “Should CBD be used in the workplace?” The answer to this question is far less confusing, and a confident ‘yes’!

Working day and day out at the same job is a dream in this economic climate because it means a steady income and stability. But, sometimes getting ourselves into such a routine can cause us to ignore the adverse effect it may have on our physical and mental health. Whether it is back pain or anxiety, these symptoms, if left untreated, can begin to worsen until they affect our ability to function our best at work. This can lead to overuse of drugs like Adderall, or even micro-dosing LSD. Luckily, the science surrounding CBD continues to grow and has so far proven the cannabinoid to alleviate symptoms that affect productivity and focus, some of which are elaborated below.

CBD reduces workplace anxiety

A number of workers opt to work from home because of their anxiety, be it OCD, social anxiety, or general anxiety. But, working from home has its struggles too. Research suggests that CBD may be the solution for someone who struggles to stay motivated and productive at home, and who would prefer to work on-site. In fact, countless studies have shown that CBD may help a person reduce or overcome their anxiety, helping them to function better, whether it’s in the workplace or at home.

Another study found that CBD can alleviate the fear of public speaking. The study aimed to understand the effect of CBD in patients with social anxiety disorder. CBD was found to reduce their anxiety, discomfort, and cognitive impairment in the speech performance. These results indicate that a single dose of CBD can reduce the anxiety caused by the simulation public speaking test in social anxiety patients. If CBD eases the stress of public speaking, it will improve other anxieties in the workplace, like presentations and interviews.

Fewer smoke breaks

Taking multiple smoke breaks throughout the day can interrupt your productivity, and even affects your health. But according to new research out of the UK, CBD has the potential to help fight cigarette addiction. In 2016, the journal Addictive Behaviours published an article by researchers at the University College London. The group was the first to investigate CBD’s effect on cigarette addiction in humans. 24 smokers who wanted to quit the habit that split into two groups.

One group received inhalers containing CBD, while the other received inhalers containing placebo. The smokers were to use the inhaler they had received whenever they felt the urge to smoke, for a week. The results of the study found that the placebo group showed no change in their smoking habits, while the CBD group has reduced the number of cigarettes they smoked by 40% on average. Although more extensive studies are needed to confirm these findings, it is clear that CBD shows potential in terms of reducing cravings for nicotine and helping people smoke less.

Aids sleep

Besides reducing anxiety and smoke breaks, CBD further influences productivity levels by treating sleep disorders. In today’s political and economic climate, workers have to worry about more than only doing their job. Many people may struggle to sleep because their minds are focused on what they did not achieve that day and what needs to be achieved the following day. To help stop their minds spinning, some people may use sleeping aids, which can be highly addictive as well as have some side effects.

For example, some of these drugs can leave the user feeling groggy the next morning. Replacing sleeping aids with CBD can help you get a full night’s rest, without risk of addiction or side effects. CBD works to treat insomnia by reaching the roots. For example, if one has difficulty sleeping because of anxiety, CBD can soothe the mind and improve sleep quality. While, if aches and pains are keeping one awake, the anti-inflammatory effects of CBD will help.

Anti-inflammatory

Sitting for long periods of time hunched over files or a computer can lead to back and neck pain, while excessive typing can cause aches in the hands. Besides causing insomnia, it may further slowdown productivity and affect the quality of work produced. Researchers believe that CBD, due to its anti-inflammatory negatively affect your properties, can assist people who experience minor aches, stiffness, and chronic pain.

Some over-the-counter medications have side effects like drowsiness, which can your productivity. CBD, on the other hand, is a natural remedy with no adverse effects, but a variety of benefits that will further improve your workday.
